About the area
San Felipe was a village just north and midway up the mountain
from the original city of Oaxaca. It is now part of the
city but continues to be on the periphery. There is a large
conservation area a quarter of a mile north of San Felipe's
central square. The house is about four city blocks, downslope,
to the west of the central square. Public buses, shared
ride taxies and individual taxis can be picked up at the
central square for the 15-minute ride to the central district.
Prices are modest -- about 35 cents for a bus. $3.50 buys
a private cab ride for four people.
